Visiting restrictions have been put in place at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick following an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

Seven cases have been confirmed in three wards.

The Health Service Executive has asked that the public curtails its visits as strict infection precautions have been put in place to prevent the spread of the disease.

People wishing to visit have been asked to check with reception staff or contact the hospital before visiting, and only to attend the Accident and Emergency department if it is absolutely necessary.
