The British Army has withdrawn from Crossmaglen in South Armagh.
This is one of the most significant moves in the demilitarisation process in the North.
The last troops from the Black Watch regiment left their security base overnight.
The demilitarisation process is due to finish by the end of July with the number of British troops in the North reduced to around 5,000 in 10 bases.
Their operational task of providing back-up to the police will also formally end.
