The Minister for Education, Mary Hanafin has reversed a decision that would have seen 29 schools in south Dublin and Wicklow lose access to the state's Educational Psychologist services.

Earlier this week it emerged that the schools would lose the service as part of what the Department called a reorganisation.

However today Minister Hanafin has said the lost services will be resumed immediately following a review of the situation.

Primary school principals have welcomed the decision.

The Irish Primary Principals Network had criticised the original decision as a bizarre. It says the move would have affected more than 5,000 children.

Today the IPPN said it was very happy to see the decision reversed.
