Gardaí in Co Sligo are investigating a fatal road collision which occurred at this afternoon at Stone Park in Ballymote.
A 55-year-old male pedestrian was fatally injured when he was struck by a car which went on to collide with a parked car.
The incident occurred at 12.55pm.
The injured man was removed to Sligo General Hospital and was pronounced dead at 3.40pm.
The man driving the car was arrested this afternoon and is currently being detained at Sligo Garda Station for questioning in connection with the collision.
He is in his early 30s and can be held for up to 24 hours under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The name of the deceased man will not be released before Saturday.
Meanwhile, gardaí from Mullingar, Co Westmeath, are meanwhile appealing for witnesses to a collision which occurred at 4.15pm this afternoon at Harbour Street in the town.
A 15-year-old girl is in a serious condition in hospital after she was struck by a truck.

Man killed in Co Cork accident
Elsewhere, a man was killed in a road accident in Gortagousta in Carrigtwohill, Co Cork, last night.
He was struck by a car at around 2.30am on the Carrigtwohill bypass and taken to Cork University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The accident caused traffic disruption in the area for a time this morning.
