17 killed in Iraq suicide bomb attack

At least 17 people have been killed and dozens wounded in a suicide car bomb attack outside a restaurant north of the Iraqi city of Ramadi.

The restaurant is reported to be popular with Iraqi police officers, many of whom were killed.

Earlier, US forces announced the arrest of what they claim is a leader of a network suspected of killing some 900 civilians and wounding nearly 2,000 others in a series of high-profile car bomb attacks.

Haydar Rashid Nasir Al-Shmmari Al-Jafar, suspected to be the second in command of the group, was arrested on 21 March in Baghdad's Sunni district of Adhamiyah following an intelligence tip, the US military said.

Mr Jafar was detained along with two other suspected members of the network, Ahmed Hassan Niami and Hamid Selman Allawi, while driving through Adhamiyah.
