Organisers of a new political awareness campaign say they are confident they can increase voter turnout in the forthcoming General Election.
Rock the Vote Ireland is hoping to boost the number of young voters by 100,000.
Organisers say the non-partisan campaign is being funded by philanthropic donations and also by a number of Irish universities.
It is being supported by the people behind the Rock The Vote in the US, which has campaigned ahead of the presidential elections there since 1992.
So far the Irish campaign has enlisted the support of comedian Dara O'Briain and actor Cillian Murphy.
It is planning to post videos from them on social networking websites like Bebo, MySpace and YouTube urging people to exercise their right to vote.
The campaign will also visit third level institutions across the country in the lead up to polling day.
Rock the Vote Ireland will be officially launched on 7 April.
The campaign's executive director, Patrick Cosgrave, says international experience shows the effort to encourage voter participation is most effective when it is concentrated in a short period before an election.
