AA Roadwatch is continuing to advise motorists to reduce speeds and to take extreme care following widespread icy patches on the country's road network.
Road conditions have improved on some National Routes, but icy patches are lingering in many areas including rural roads and on high ground.
Back roads in Kildare and Donegal, where there have been a number of minor material damage accidents, are particularly dangerous.
Met Éireann is forecasting temperatures of -2 Celsius in some areas tonight.
Several minor accidents were reported this morning as motorists around the country struggled to deal with icy surfaces and in some places black ice.
Particular care was advised on roads in the border counties, the south-east, midlands and north west.
Roads in Northern Ireland were described as treacherous.
While temperatures have risen, alerts to motorists remain in place.
AA Roadwatch says that road conditions in Donegal are the worst but that as temperatures fall later on, other roads may return to the dangerous conditions of this morning.
Some ferry sailings have been cancelled and intending passengers are being asked to check sailings before leaving home.
Two more road deaths were reported last night and in the early hours of this morning bringing the weekend death toll in traffic accidents to eight.
