83 jobs to go at Clare electrical firm

83 electricians employed by the RSEL company, based in Ennis, Co Clare, are to lose their jobs after a liquidator has been appointed to the company.

The company petitioned the High Court earlier this week to appoint a liquidator, and the company is now in the process of being wound up.

The firm was involved in electrical contracting for large building projects. It also employed 16 FÁS apprentices.

A spokesperson for the liquidator said that the electricians employed by the company were highly skilled and were already being headhunted by other companies.

75 jobs to go in Kildare

A confectionary company in Co Kildare has announced it is to move its operation to China with the loss of 75 jobs.

Zed Candy is to transfer production from its plant in Kilcock, Co Kildare in mid-2008. Production will continue until then.

Managing director Brendan Roantree said the company had no option because of the rising costs of manufacturing in Ireland.
