European shares rose sharply in early trading this morning as investors returned to the market after yesterday's sell-off.

In Dublin, the ISEQ bounced back 1.7% after a 4% drop yesterday, while London's FTSE was 1.5% ahead. It lost more than 2.5% yesterday.

World markets plummeted yesterday because of worries about the risks of a crisis in the US mortgage sector spilling over into the wider economy.
