The funeral of Garda Brian Kelleher, who was killed while attending an accident near Foynes last Sunday morning, has taken place in Dromin in Co Limerick.
The funeral of part-time firefighter, Michael Liston, also took place in Foynes this afternoon. The mourners included fire fighters from all over the country.
President Mary McAleese and Taoiseach Bertie Ahern were represented at both funerals.
Garda Kelleher, 46, was married with three children, while Mr Liston, 48, was married with four children.
They were killed when a car crashed into the scene of an accident they were responding to on the coast road between Askeaton and Foynes.
Mourners attending the funerals were told to take personal responsibility for their driving and to change their attitudes to road safety.
Parish priest Fr Tony Mullins also said the shocking deaths had left everyone with a heavy heart.
