The Fine Gael leader, Enda Kenny, has called for a major initiative to tackle the growing problem of drug and alcohol abuse among school children.
Mr Kenny said schools who want to introduce random drug and alcohol testing, should be allowed to do so by the Department of Education and Science.
He told a young Fine Gael conference that given the unprecedented pressure on our young people, the time is now right to empower young people, parents and schools in the fight against drugs and alcohol.
