It is reported that rival Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah have agreed to a ceasefire.

Palestinian Foreign Minister Mahmoud al-Zahar made the announcement following talks between Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas and Rawhi Fattuh, an aide to Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas.

It is understood the two sides have agreed to take all gunmen off the streets of Gaza and remove checkpoints.

A joint statement also called for militants loyal to both parties to release hostages they have taken over recent days.

Three days of clashes between the governing Hamas faction and its rival Fatah have left at least 24 people dead.
