British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said it would be madness not to at least try to stop climate change.
He made the comments during the closing address at the World Economic Forum at Davos in Switzerland.
He said the world could be near to making a breakthrough on confronting global warming, but he warned that any agreement would need commitments from the US, China and India.
Mr Blair said he expected the German presidency of G8 countries to provide the opportunity for world powers to agree on a climate deal to replace the Kyoto Protocol.
