The Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton has taken the first step towards running for the 2008 presidential nomination in the United States
She said today that she plans to form a committee that would look at the possibility of a presidential bid.
In a video-taped message on her website, Senator Clinton said that after six years of George Bush it was time to 'renew the promise of America'.
A bid would see her in contention for the Democratic nomination with Senator Barack Obama who announced his intention to run earlier this week.
Senator Obama hopes to become the first African-American president.
On Senator Clinton's website she said she was 'in to win'.
Her candidature would make her the first spouse of a former President ever to run for the office and the first woman to be nominated by one of the major parties.
