A senior UN official has said the UN should take the lead in tackling global warming because of the failure of world leaders to agree on the issue.
The head of the UN's Climate Secretariat, Yvo de Boer, said only the UN could bring together the competing interests of developed and developing nations to find a solution to the problems.
Mr de Boer called for an international summit to decide what should happen when the Kyoto climate change treaty expires in 2012.
