Gardaí in Dublin are investigating a fatal road collision which happened shortly after 10am today at Barryscourt Road in Coolock.

A female pedestrian in her 70s was fatally injured by a double-decker bus operated by Dublin Bus.

The woman was taken to Beaumont Hospital where she later died.

In a separate accident near Mount Shannon in Co Clare, five people, including two young children, have been injured.

The accident occurred on the Whitegate Road, a short distance from the town, just before 11am.

Five members of one family were taken to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital after the crash: mother, father, daughter, son and aunt.

The parents and daughter are described as stable. The aunt is in a serious condition and the son, aged three and a half years, is critical and is being transferred to Cork.
