The number of people arrested by gardaí between Christmas and the New Year was down slightly on the previous week, according to garda figures.
Provisional statistics indicate that during the seven-day period from 25-31 December 318 drink driving incidents were recorded, compared to 342 the previous week.
Gardaí say enforcement activities in this area of road safety will continue to be prioritised.
