The US military in Iraq has confirmed that two US soldiers were killed in an explosion in Diyala province northeast of Baghdad yesterday.
Their deaths took the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq in December 2006 to at least 112.
December was the deadliest month for American soldiers in Iraq for more than two years.
At least 3,001 US servicemen have been killed since the invasion began in March 2003.
