The Archbishop of Canterbury has accused the British government of placing Christians in the Middle East at risk through its actions in Iraq.

Dr Rowan Williams, who is on a pilgrimage in the region, said the number of attacks on Christians was increasing.

The British government has defended its policy in Iraq, saying it was not the cause of such attacks.

But Dr Williams says Christians across the Middle East could now easily be branded unfriendly.
