The British Prime Minister Tony Blair has been questioned by police in connection with the cash for honours investigation.
The inquiry began after it was revealed that the British Labour Party was given secret loans ahead of last year's general election.
Some donors were subsequently nominated for honours.
A spokesperson for the British government said Mr Blair was not under caution when spoken to.
The development means that police have taken their inquiries to the top of British government.
They have already questioned Mr Blair's entire cabinet and other people, including members of the opposition parties, since launching their probe in March.
