Over 7,000 people in Longford town have been advised not to drink the public water supply ‘as a precautionary move’ .
A fault was discovered in the Lough Forbes water treatment plant outside the town this morning.
The fault has now been fixed but the council is awaiting results of tests by the Health Services Executive to establish if the water is fit again for human consumption.
