Gerry Adams - Threat report confirmed

Sinn Féin sources have said PSNI officers visited the home of the party leader, Gerry Adams, earlier this month and warned him that dissident republicans had discussed shooting him.

Mr Adams received a notice from the PSNI outlining how dissident republicans recently discussed mounting an attack, possibly a shooting, but discounted such a plan due to the security around the Sinn Féin leader.

The PSNI message advised Mr Adams to seek advice on and take steps to protect his personal security, according to a report in today's Andersonstown News.

On Friday, Sinn Féin's policing spokesman, Gerry Kelly, confirmed he had received a warning from the PSNI about a threat from dissidents.

Just over a month ago, leadership figures within Sinn Féin increased their security arrangements.

It followed reports that disaffected former IRA members and dissident republicans opposed to the party moves towards support for policing structures, were planning an attack on a high profile figure.
