Dublin Airport welcomed its 20 millionth passenger in a year for the first time in its history.
Ten years ago the airport was welcoming nine million passengers annually, less than half the figure recorded so far in 2006.
The airport authority said the 20 millionth passenger arrived on an Aer Lingus flight from Dubai and received a holiday voucher for €3,000, a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of champagne.
A spokesperson for the airport said: ‘This is a historic milestone for us at Dublin Airport.
‘To put this in context it means that the equivalent of more than five times the entire population of Ireland travelled through Dublin Airport this year alone.'
