Dublin City Council has defended the decision to cut off the water supply to more than 100,000 people over the coming weekend.
A council spokesman said the shutdown in the northeast of the city was necessary because of works associated with the Dublin Port Tunnel.
The council is to provide two stationary water tankers at St Brigid's Church, Howth Road and behind the UCI Cinema in Coolock to minimise disruption.
