Met Éireann say 'the worst is over' in terms of the severe weather experienced in parts of the country today.
Heavy rain which affected Mayo is beginning to clear.
While there will be continuing strong winds and rain in the eastern half of Ireland up to about 9pm, the storm should be well gone by midnight.
Winds gusting up to more than 100km/h have been affecting the west and northwest.
Road users were earlier advised to take extra care after a severe weather alert was issued by Met Éireann.
The Road Safety Authority said strong winds and heavy rain might lead to hazardous driving conditions.
Drivers were advised to watch out for falling/fallen debris on the road and vehicles veering across the road.
Control of a vehicle may be affected by strong cross winds while high-sided vehicles and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to strong winds.
Drivers were advised to allow extra distance between their vehicle and the vehicle in front, especially when driving behind heavy goods vehicles.
