Allen Carr dies of lung cancer

Allen Carr, the anti-smoking campaigner, has died following a short illness.

Mr Carr, 72, developed what he called the 'Easyway' method to stop smoking and set up clinics all over the world, including Ireland.

He had smoked up to 100 cigarettes a day until 23 years ago.

He died today from lung cancer near his home in Malaga in Spain.

The anti-smoking lobby, ASH, has said those who want to quit smoking should not be de-motivated by the death.

Professor Luke Clancy, Chairman of ASH, said those who want to quit smoking should take encouragement from Mr Carr's example.
