Four people have been killed in a car bombing near Baghdad's main Yarmouk hospital.

As many as 40 were injured in the attack.

In Iraq's northern province of Kirkuk, the governor survived a suicide bomb attack on his convoy as it passed a hospital.

Police said Abdul Rahman Mustafa and his bodyguards were unharmed in the blast in the city of Kirkuk, which killed one civilian and injured at least another 12 people.

The bomber with a belt of explosives blew himself up after failing to get inside the governor's car.

Iraqi President calls on Iran for help

The Iraqi President, Jalal Talabani, yesterday called on Iran to provide 'comprehensive help' to stem the escalating violence in the country, amid warnings of an impending civil war in Iraq.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who was hosting the Iraqi president, responded by saying that there would be no limits on the help Tehran would offer.

This week US President George W Bush travels to Jordan to hold discussions with the Iraqi premier, Nouri al-Maliki.
