Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin has said it does not believe that the Mater Hospital site can deliver a world class facility for the proposed new national children's hospital.
In a 62-page submission to the Health Service Executive, the hospital claims the site is too small, has access problems and would have insufficient parking for families and staff.
In June, the Government backed a plan to move the three children's hospitals in Dublin to a new national centre on the Mater site.
The proposal came from an HSE taskforce and followed a recommendation from independent experts that the new 380-bed hospital be located close to a major adult facility.
Now the country's biggest children's hospital, Our Lady's, has said it does not believe the Mater site can deliver the world-class facility proposed.
Instead, the board of the hospital has made a case for the new national children's facility to be built on a greenfield site and it says locating the hospital with a maternity facility is essential.
Since the Government's plans were announced, the project has faced criticism from several hospitals including Tallaght, whose children's hospital is due to go to the new facility, and St James's, which lost out in the bidding process to be the location for the new centre.
