The Labour Party has called on the government to include an action plan to address Ireland's Kyoto commitments on climate change in the forthcoming budget.
At a special budget forum in Dublin, the party said a number of simple and cost effective steps could be taken next year by government to improve Ireland's contribution to reducing global warming.
Its proposals include carbon proofing major industrial projects and the extension of incentives for using bio-fuels in transport.
The party is also calling for more tax justice to be introduced in the budget.
