HSE contacts relatives over Leas Cross

Leas Cross - Group wants full accountability
Leas Cross - Group wants full accountability

The Health Service Executive says it has written to over 100 known relatives of former patients of the Leas Cross nursing home offering to meet them to discuss any concerns or queries.

The executive said it would also be meeting a number of patient campaign groups on 11 December to discuss issues relating to Leas Cross and other nursing homes.

Relatives of former patients of Leas Cross have formed an action group seeking reform of the nursing home sector.

The Leas Cross Death Relatives Action Group says it wants full accountability from the HSE and the public to know of the difficult experiences of families.

The group claims there was ample evidence available to the HSE on the problems at Leas Cross.

Relatives say they still suffer pain and regret at their decision to place family members in the home which had been approved and registered by the HSE.

The group says the executive paid around €2 million a year in subventions to Leas Cross and had conducted enough inspections to be aware of the conditions there.
