Kerry Co Council has voted to make an application to the Minister for the Environment to change the name of An Daingean to Dingle Daingean Uí Chúis.
The move follows a recent plebiscite held on the issue in the west Kerry town.
After a protracted discussion at this morning's council meeting, during which a number of councillors appealed to delay the application for a month in order to facilitate community discussions, the council voted 15-10 to proceed.
