A new study published in Dundalk this morning shows that the roads throughout border counties in the Republic and Northern Ireland are the most dangerous on the island.
The cross-border study also reveals that substantial numbers of buses and lorries break the speed limit and that there is still a very casual approach to drink-driving.
Over 50% of people surveyed said they would accept a lift in a vehicle from someone who had been drinking excessively.
Overall the study shows that more than two in every five buses and lorries break the speed limit.
The figure for cars and vans is one in seven.
