Muslims criticise burqa ban proposals

Muslims in the Netherlands have criticised a government proposal to ban Muslim women from wearing the burqa in public places.

Muslim groups say a ban would make the country's one million Muslims feel victimised and alienated.

The Dutch government has backed a proposal by the country's immigration minister to ban the full body covering that also obscures the face.

The decision comes ahead of Friday's elections which the ruling centre-right coalition is expected to win.
