Hasbro has announced that 140 jobs will be lost at its factory in Waterford.
The toy and game manufacturing company currently employs 440 people at its plant in Waterford city.
The company, which makes board games such as Monopoly, is blaming competition from China as one of the reasons for the job losses.
Hasbro has been in Waterford for nearly 30 years and previously employed up to 600 people during peak production months.
The company makes 1.5 million Monopoly board games in Waterford each year for sale in 26 countries, and Monopoly remains the world's most popular board game.
The company says the redundancies are necessary to safeguard the future of the remaining jobs.
