Ceremonies took place at 11am this morning to commemorate Armistice Day, marking the 88th anniversary of end of the first World War.

A wreath laying ceremony was held at the War Memorial at Islandbridge in Dublin at which a two-minute silence was observed.

Ceremonies also took place throughout the UK and France, as well as Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Meanwhile, France's oldest veteran from World War I has died at the age of 111.

Maurice Floquet fought in Belgium and France and was seriously wounded twice.
