St Vincent's Hospital - New site for dermatology services

The City of Dublin Skin and Cancer Hospital in Hume Street is to close after providing health care for nearly 100 years.

Hume Street has been treating around 17,000 patients a year and is one of the last hospitals based in the centre of the capital.

Many of the hospital's staff and its dermatology services will be transferred to a new dedicated facility at St Vincent's University Hospital.

The hospital says there will be no disruption to services in the transfer and that all patients will be informed of the new location.

An estimated €25 million is expected to be raised with the deadline for the sale of Hume Street by public tender set for tomorrow. The board of the hospital said it expects the funds will be reinvested in healthcare and dermatology research.

Around 30 beds and other pieces of medical equipment from the hospital are to be sent to Cuba to aid its health system.
