Marathon competitor dies in Dublin

A man taking part in the 27th Dublin City Marathon has collapsed and died.

The organisers of the event said the man, thougth to be aged around 40, became unwell at Orwell Road, Rathgar, just after midday.

He received attention from gardaí and emergency services but was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital, from suspected heart failure.

The 27th Marathon was won in a record time of 2.11:38 by Aleksey Sokolov.

The Russian broke the current record by more than one and a half minutes.
