A fifth man has died as a result of the two-car collision in Co Monaghan on Saturday.

John Mc Quillan, 27, of Threemilehouse in Monaghan died this evening in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Three other victims of the crash, 19-year-old Brian O'Neill, Ciaran Hagan, 22 and Gary McCormack, 21, were buried earlier today in Threemilehouse. More than 400 people attended the service at St Mary's church.

The funeral of Dermot Thornton, 21, will take place tomorrow.

Mr Thornton's remains will be brought from the family residence to St Mary's Church at 10.15am for Requiem Mass at 11am.

The local parish priest, Fr Joe McCluskey, has spoken of his shock and horror when he heard of the news in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Fr McCluskey said a sense of calm and silence has descended on the parish ever since, and he prayed that unnecessary deaths would never again take place on the roads.
