The leader of Ireland's pharmacists has called for the introduction of legislation to protect the public from those in the profession who are not competent.
Ronan Quirke, President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland, was speaking at a national conference in Dublin this morning.
Mr Quirke told the summit that a new regulatory regime must also cover pharmacies in hospitals, nursing homes and prisons.
The Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney, told the summit she hopes to publish the first of two pieces of planned legislation for the sector later this year.
