More than 100 gardaí were again involved in an operation to get workers onto the site of the Corrib gas terminal in Co Mayo early today.
The gardaí were brought in after a group of over 100 protestors blocked the main road leading to the terminal entrance.
The convoy of vehicles taking the construction workers to the site was re-routed away from the demonstration.
Members of the Shell to Sea campaign said their action is part of an ongoing campaign to prevent the terminal being built.
They say it poses unacceptable health and safety risks to the area.
Shell Ireland rejects these claims and says it is moving ahead with its plans to build the €200 million terminal.
Dublin protest
A spokesperson for the Dublin Shell to Sea campaign says four Shell garages in Co Dublin are being picketed tonight in solidarity with the Co Mayo protests.
A group of around 30 protestors are picketing the Shell garage in Donnybrook, Co Dublin, while protests are also taking place in Glasnevin, Tallaght and Ushers Quay.
The spokesperson said the campaign would be stepped up in the near future until their demands are met.
The protestors were attempting to blockade the garages. Around eight gardaí were on duty at the forecourt of the Donnybrook garage.
A spokesperson for the garage pointed out that it is a franchise and buys fuel from Topaz Energy.
