A solicitor for a director of the Cargobridge consortium, which got an industrial rezoning near Dublin Airport, has told the Mahon Tribunal he was aware that Ciaran Haughey of Celtic Helicopters had an interest in the land.

But Michael Kennedy said he informed the Department of Transport in 1992 that it was his client, Michael McGuinness, and another director who held ownership of Abervanta, the company through which it is now known Mr Haughey held his ownership.

Mr Kennedy said he was not sure about how Mr Haughey's Celtic Helicopters held an interest and the letter to the department was written on his client's instructions.

Mr McGuinness has told the tribunal he is abroad and will not be giving evidence to the tribunal.

Mr Kennedy said he did not know of his former client's whereabouts but does know he has a property in Spain.
