The President of the Irish Farmers' Association, Padraig Walshe, has said the organisation plans to 'name and shame' restaurants which are not complying with legalisation forcing them to advertise the origin of their beef.
Speaking on RTÉ Radio's Morning Ireland, Mr Walshe said he believes the new Food and Safety Authority is not properly policing the situation and is frustrated with the lack of compliance.
Also speaking on the programme, John O'Brien, CEO of the Food and Safety Authority, defended the level of enforcement of the Health (Country of Origin of Beef) Regulations.
Mr O'Brien said that inspecting restaurants' compliance with the regulations, which were introduced in July, was part of the work of 400 environmental health officers around the country.
