The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is coming under continuing pressure over his financial affairs, two days after he confirmed that he received payments which are being investigated by the Mahon Tribunal.

Opposition parties say he still has questions to answer.

Leaked reports from the Mahon Tribunal suggest donations given to Bertie Ahern when he was Minister for Finance in the 1990s.

A report published today in the Irish Times states that the monies given to the Taoiseach in December 1993 were in the form of repayable loans.

On Thursday the Taoiseach confirmed that he received payments from a number of people in the early 1990s which are being investigated by the Mahon Tribunal.

In a statement yesterday Mr Ahern condemned what he described as a sinister leak of confidential information.

He said information given in confidence to a Tribunal should remain confidential.

He said he had given the Tribunal full information on his financial affairs over many years and that his family and friends had also co-operated with it.

Mr Ahern said if the Tribunal had anything to ask him, or write to him about, he would be very glad to answer it.

However, Opposition parties remain adamant that questions remain about the payments.

Meanwhile, the Mahon Tribunal has reminded media organisations that they are prohibited from publishing information given in confidence to the tribunal.
