Israel says strike on UN post was accident

An Israeli investigation into an air strike on a UN observation post that killed four peacekeepers has concluded that the incident was a tragic error.

The report said the post in southern Lebanon was erroneously targeted because of flawed military maps.

It said Israeli aircraft attacked the post in July in the belief that it was a Hezbollah position.

Israel did receive calls from the UN during the attack complaining that it was coming under fire but Israeli commands to stop did not reach the force in time.
