The British Prime Minister Tony Blair has had talks in Beirut with the Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and key political figures in the aftermath of Israel's war against Hezbollah fighters in the south of the country.
At a joint news conference following the talks, Mr Blair said Britain would help with the reconstruction of Lebanon.
He said the United Nations resolution on Lebanon must be fully implemented and that the Lebanese army must be assisted to take full control of the country.
Talks with the Israeli Prime Minister and the President of the Palestinian Authority will follow.
Irish peace activist Caoimhe Butterly briefly disrupted the news conference when she unfurled a banner reading 'Boycott Israeli apartheid' and shouted 'Shame on you'.
Security men grabbed the banner and hustled her away.
Around 1,500 people staged a protest as Mr Blair held talks with his counterpart in the final leg of his three-day tour of the Middle East.
