An Irish pilot has survived a mid-air collision with a stunt plane during an aerobatics competition in Malta.
Eddie Goggins, Ireland's current aerobatic champion, parachuted to safety after his propeller-driven plane was hit by another aircraft during the Aero GP competition.
The other pilot, the Swedish aerobatics champion, Gabor Varga, was killed in the accident.
Both planes crashed into the sea near Valletta.
Mr Varga was in the Guinness book of records for performing the greatest number of aerobatic loops in an hour, a total of 256.
