More than 200 Taliban fighters have been killed since Saturday in an offensive by Afghan and NATO forces in southern Afghanistan.
Four Canadian soldiers with the NATO forces were also killed in Operation MEDUSA, near the city of Kandahar.
The operation was the biggest by NATO since it took over command of the southern region on 31 July from US-led coalition forces.
A British reconnaissance plane involved in the offensive crashed on Saturday, killing all 14 people on board.
