Gardaí are investigating the death of a young man in an amusement park accident in Tramore in Co Waterford yesterday.
Gavin Mason from Kilmore Close in Artane in Co Dublin was visiting Tramore in Waterford with some friends for the weekend to celebrate his 22nd birthday.
Yesterday evening a group of four or five went to the amusement park in Tramore and shortly before 7.30pm they went on the Ghost Train.
Gardaí say it appears Mr Mason was in the front section of one of the carriages. At one stage, he stood up and it is understood he toppled out in front of the moving carriage, which then went over him.
Gardaí believe a carriage from one of the other small trains then shunted against the one that had been carrying Mr Mason.
He sustained injuries to his head and body and efforts to save him failed. A post mortem examination took place this morning but the results will not be released for some days.
The Health and Safety Authority is also investigating the accident on the Ghost Train, which has been closed until further notice.
The gardaí have described Mr Mason's death as a tragic accident.
