Cuban television has broadcast the first moving images of Fidel Castro since he underwent abdominal surgery two weeks ago.
The six-minute film footage shows him in bed chatting to the Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez, during a visit to mark his 80th birthday on Sunday.
Mr Castro temporarily ceded power to his brother, Raul, when he fell ill.
