The Arab League is sending a delegation to New York to push through proposed Lebanese amendments to a draft United Nations resolution to end the violence in the Middle East.
The decision was taken at a meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Beirut.
The US President, George W Bush, has blamed Hezbollah for provoking the crisis in Lebanon and called on Syria and Iran to rein in the organisation.
The Israeli Defence Minister, Amir Peretz, has said his country will broaden its ground offensive in southern Lebanon within days if diplomatic efforts to end the fighting fail to make progress.
The Lebanese Prime Minister, Fouad Siniora, has renewed demands for a truce with Israel and the immediate withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon.
The developments come ahead of a UN Security Council meeting later today where the draft resolution will be discussed.
The Lebanese amendments to the Franco-US draft were formally submitted by the country's representative at the UN, Nouhad Mahmoud, who said it called for Israeli forces to withdraw from Lebanese territory.
Lebanon has also objected to the draft's handling of territorial disputes and of prisoners held by both sides.
